When considering striping your Chevrolet/Chevy Camaro or any other car you generally have two choices. Painted on stripes or vinyl adhesive stripes. Both have pros and cons associated with them. Painted stripes are generally applied by a paint shop and will run anywhere from $500 to $2000. If properly applied painted on stripes will generally last longer than vinyl stripes and will conform over scoops and complex curves better than vinyl. The downside to painted on stripes is the expense and the fact that they are difficult to alter or change and if you are not happy with them you are generally stuck. If the stripes are vinyl you can remove them. If a mistake is made during application you simply remove the bad section and replace it. Vinyl stripes less expensive with prices ranging from $25 - $100 for do it yourself kits. Kits can be installed in an hour or so depending on the type of the kit and how much striping you are applying. Once applied they are almost identical to sprayed on stripes at a fraction of the price. Also, you don't have to do without your car for a week. Vinyl Stripes are not hard to apply and will last for years if properly cared for. Longevity depends on the material used and how much the car is exposed to the sun. Over the past 10 years tremendous improvements have been made in vinyl production and quality. Quality adhesive vinyl with a 6 year outdoor rating is now readily available whereas 5 years ago this was not the case. Also, a large number of colors are now available. Both standard and metallic. When your stripes need replacing it is easy to remove them and replace them. They can be removed by simply heating with a hair dryer or heat gun, peeling and then removing any residue with Goo Gone or an adhesive remover. For the cost of one set of painted stripes you can buy many sets of vinyl stripes. An advantage of vinyl is that a computer is used for design work making it possible to integrate in logos, curves and other effects that would be tough to do using only paint. If you want to add more striping to your car such as rocker panel stripes the same brand and color code vinyl can be used so you get a good match. In summary, painted on stripes should be considered when complex curves or obstacles make vinyl impractical. Otherwise vinyl makes much more sense.
